Mission & Vision

Tenure Journal is an internationally peer‑reviewed academic publication dedicated to the rigorous study of elite achievement in political leadership and governance. We serve as a permanent, open‑access archive of the accomplishments, decisions, and legacies of political office holders—presidents, prime ministers, monarchs, revolutionary leaders, and other high‑level statespersons—from all eras and regions, with special attention to African leadership in global context.

Our vision is to become the definitive scholarly resource for understanding how power is exercised, remembered, and evaluated. We believe that the critical examination of elite achievement is essential not only for academic history but also for contemporary policy, leadership education, and informed public discourse.

Scope

Tenure Journal publishes:

Original research articles (historical, political science, biographical)
Archival case studies of specific leaders or administrations
Comparative analyses of elite achievement across countries or periods
Review essays on new biographies and political histories
Forum pieces debating the legacy of controversial leaders

We do not publish hagiography or uncritical praise. Every submission must offer evidentiary rigor, contextual nuance, and a clear contribution to historical or political scholarship.

Editorial Ethics

Tenure Journal adheres to the highest standards of publication ethics, as outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All editors, reviewers, and authors are bound by the following principles:

Peer Review Integrity

  • All submissions undergo double‑blind peer review by at least two independent experts.
  • Reviewers must declare any conflicts of interest (personal, institutional, financial, or ideological) before accepting an invitation.
  • Reviewers are expected to evaluate manuscripts solely on scholarly merit—originality, methodology, evidence, and clarity—not on the political reputation or nationality of the author or subject.

Author Responsibilities

  • Authors must certify that their work is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under simultaneous consideration by another journal.
  • All sources must be properly cited. Plagiarism in any form (including self‑plagiarism) leads to immediate rejection and a two‑year ban on submissions.
  • Authors must disclose any funding sources or institutional affiliations that could influence their interpretation of elite achievements.

Handling of Sensitive Historical Subjects

  • Because Tenure Journal often examines living or recently deceased leaders, authors must distinguish between verifiable fact and interpretation.
  • Defamatory, unsubstantiated, or purely speculative claims are not permitted.
  • Where a leader's record includes human rights violations or contested actions, authors must engage with primary sources and opposing historiographies in good faith.

Conflicts of Interest

  • Editors recuse themselves from handling submissions authored by close colleagues, family members, or former graduate students.
  • No member of the editorial board may use their position to influence the review of their own work.
  • The journal does not accept paid submissions, and no advertising or sponsorship affects editorial decisions.

Corrections & Retractions

  • If an error is discovered post‑publication, the journal will issue a correction, an expression of concern, or a retraction as warranted, following COPE guidelines.
  • All retractions are published with a clear explanation and remain permanently linked to the original article.

Archival Commitment

  • As "The Archive of Elite Achievements," Tenure Journal guarantees permanent digital preservation through partnerships with CLOCKSS and national archives.
  • No article will ever be removed for political pressure or ideological objection. Only technical errors or proven falsification trigger retraction.

Editorial Board

Our board consists of distinguished historians, political scientists, and archival researchers from six continents, with balanced representation from African, European, American, and Asian institutions. Board members serve five‑year terms and are selected for their expertise in elite studies, leadership history, and comparative governance.

Tenure Journal is a diamond open‑access publication: no fees for authors or readers. All articles are published under a Creative Commons BY‑NC‑ND 4.0 license, allowing sharing with attribution for non‑commercial purposes, but no derivative works without permission.

Authors retain copyright of their work.
